Awards
At the
end of each year, every student is presented with an Award of Merit that
highlights an outstanding skill or quality of the student. These awards range
from Most Consistent, Friendly, Enthusiastic, and Athletic to Best Dressed,
Penmanship, Artist, and Fund Raiser.
Awards
of Achievement are presented according to academic performance. These include
Math, Foreign Language, Spelling, and Religious Knowledge. A certificate is
presented for the highest overall average in Grade 1 with a trophy for Grades 2
and 3 known as the Junior Arthur Hansen Trophy. The Senior Arthur Hansen Trophy
is awarded to the highest overall average in Grades 4 through 6.
Additional
awards are presented for Best Attendance and the Judith Helmund Memorial
Reading Awards representing the Most Improved, the Most Proficient, and the
Most Prolific readers.
Lastly
is the Amber Bethel Memorial Religious Living Award. This award is to honor the
memory of a Man-O-War School first grade student who lost her life in a tragic house
fire after Hurricane Floyd in 1999. It is presented to the student who
exemplifies the best combination of academic success, community and school
citizenship, participation, and proper behaviour.
