School information

 

The Man-O-War All Age School is sanctioned by the Ministry of Education of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas.  It was established to handle students from Grade One to Grade Nine.  It should be noted that today, essentially all of the students in Grade Seven and up go to school in Marsh Harbour. The schools there are more equipped to provide the students with the necessary studies to meet the ever changing and increasing requirements of the Ministry of Education.  The current status of the school is that of a Primary School providing the educational needs of students in Grades One through Six.

 

Preschool and Kindergarten has not been a function of the Government schools and facilities have historically been provided by private preschools and kindergartens.

 

Students who are five by September 30 should register for entry into the First Grade. Attendance is mandatory until age 16.

 

Uniforms are required in all Government schools and the majority of Private schools in the Bahamas. Local sources for the Man-O-War School uniform are Spooner’s Department Store, Lowe’s Pharmacy and His and Her Jeans. Uniform patches are available through the school.

 

Each student is to pay a book fee of $25.00 by the last school day in September to cover a portion of the cost of consumable text materials. This is a token amount as the majority of the cost is paid by the proceeds from the annual Flea Market fundraiser.

 

Student health insurance is available through the school for $20.00. This covers the student 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the entire school year. Contact the school for details.

 

The school day schedule is as follows:

 

            School building opens for students                  8:45 AM

            First class session                                                     9:00 AM to 10:30 AM

            Morning break                                                        10:30 AM to 10:45 AM

            Second class session                                              10:45 AM to 12:00 Noon

            Lunch            (Students go home for lunch)    12:00 Noon to 12:45 PM

            (School reopens for students at 12:30 PM)

            Afternoon class session                                        12:45 PM to 3:00 PM
